The journey of light :
SMD Leds : these are the smallest LEDS (some have a diameter of less than 1mm ) and SMD comes from Self Mounted Device . These LEDs are best known for their use in mobile phones.
3mm , 5mm , 8mm , and 10mm LEDs : the most common types of LEDs . They can be devided in "normal" LEDs (mostly made from colored material and with brightness of less then 1000 mcd ) and "super bright " LEDs ( made of crystal clear material , with brightness from 1000 mcd to 20.000 mcd and with viewangle of less that 60 degrees ).
SuperFlux LEDs : a new type of super bright LEDS (from 1000 mcd to 50.000 mcd ) . Their special feature is a viewangle of more than 90 degrees .
The edge of technology .
The most famous are Luxeon LEDs made by the american producer Lumileds(www.lumileds.com) . With brightness starting from 100.000 mcd up to 800.000 mcd and viewangle >100 degrees , they are dozens of times more bright than 3mm , 5mm , 8mm , 10mm or even SuperFlux LEDs.
